Rhymefest advances to Chi City council runoff, faces incumbent for 20th ward seat

Grammy Award-winning Hip Hop artist and Chicago-native Rhymefest, real name Che Smith, recently made it into a runoff race with incumbent, Alderman Willie Cochran for a Chicago City Council Seat – the city’s south side 20th Ward.

Rhymefest received 20% of the votes on Tuesday (February 22) for the 20th Ward public service office while Cochran garnered 46% of the votes. With no candidate able to garner more than 50% of the votes for the council seat, the top two candidates (Smith and Cochran) will advance to the runoff election in April.

The April Runoff elections will take place on April 5.
