In what is guaranteed to be the best line-up of concerts before the world ends later on this year, London’s indigo2 celebrates Jamaica’s 50th year of independence with 12 nights titled Respect Jamaica 50 through July and August. This is the greatest thing I’ve seen on these shores in my whole entire life.

When the event poster first appeared I slapped myself in shock and disbelief. Artists such as Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley, Gyptian representing nowadays alongside legends including Jimmy Cliff, drum & bass God’s Sly & Robbie, ska icons Toots & The Maytals dancehall king Yellowman, dub veteran Lee “Scratch” Perry and dub poet Benjamin Zepphaniah over the course of 12 nights.

Then the event promotion was pulled, sites were asked to remove content and I thought “Well, they do say if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.”

Well, this week indigo2’s twitter confirmed the event and the promoters have bolstered the event.

The return of “Royal family of reggae” Morgan Heritage for the first time in at least five years, future singing legend Tarrus Riley, Grammy-award winning dancehall legend Shaggy, former I-Threes/Wailers member and legend (yes, I used “legend” again) songstress in her own right Marcia Griffiths.
