Q-Tip discusses G.O.O.D. Music signing, next album on Hot 97 [Audio]

A day after news broke that rap legend Q-Tip was the latest recruit to join what is becoming the G.O.O.D. Music army, the A Tribe Called Quest member spoke with Hot 97’s Cipha Sounds and Peter Rosenberg about how the situation came about, his next album and a host of other topics.

On his linking with Kanye West and G.O.O.D. Music, Tip says that the marriage happened naturally after he worked with the team on Kanye’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and Watch the Throne projects. The actual invitation to join, Tip says, came about casually while he and ‘Ye were chilling and listening to music.

“He was just like, ‘man, you should just link up with the team. It don’t make no other sense but to do it,'” he remembers. “And I was just like, ‘let’s do it.'”

“It’s good, man. I’m excited about it. We got a lotta things that we workin’ on; got a lotta things on the horizon. It just feels right,” he added.

The MC also confirmed that he is calling his next album The Last Zulu. He calls it a concept album and says the title refers to both his history with New York’s Zulu Nation and his genealogical lineage, which he claims links him to the Zulu people of South Africa. (Another DNA trace placed Tip’s roots with the Jola people of West Africa’s Guinea-Bissau, but who’s keeping score?)

“The beats are hard, it sounds like some ol’ raw breaks and stuff like that — it’s just real dope,” Tip says about the album.
