Pete Rock is not a fan of Lupe Fiasco sampling “T.R.O.Y” for new song | Music News

With a snippet surfacing earlier today, and the full single being freshly premiered by Funkmaster Flex moments ago, Lupe Fiasco‘s “Around My Way (Freedom Ain’t Free)” seems to have received a warm welcome from fans online – minus one supporter in particular.

Legendary producer Pete Rock has taken exception to the song’s sampling of his ’92 classic, “They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)”, venting his anger via his Twitter account.

Of course, it should be noted that Pete Rock isn’t stirring beef with Lupe personally, only expressing his resentment towards the record’s producer (who has yet to be credited) and the label, Atlantic, who haven’t exactly got the best track record with hip-hop culture (see: Lasers). It appears that neither party sought full permission from Pete personally to sample the record, so he has a point, surely?
