Nicki Minaj Speaks To HoneyMag About Debut Album ‘Pink Friday’ [Video]

Nicki Minaj speaks to HoneyMag about the creative process behind her forthcoming album, Pink Friday, which is 3/4 finished – and why she decided to announce its titled on ustream.

In the interview [which you can watch belo], the Young Money rap star also acknowledges that widespread perception of her is currently based more on her image than her music – something she hopes to change with her debut LP this year;

“I don’t think people see me as a musician, I think people see me more as a character… I don’t feel like that buzz is directly related to my music yet. I think once my album comes out you guys ill understand me as a musician.”

Pink Friday is set for release on November 23rd via Young Money Entertainment/Universal Motown.

“I wanted to release my album next year,” she said. When asked why, she surprisingly responded, “I don’t think I have a big enough fan base.”

Being a woman in the competitive world of hip hop, comparisons are inevitable, cue the most recent beef with Lil Kim. But Minaj promises that the release of her album will make for a better understanding of who she really is.

Confident that fans have not yet seen her scratch the surface of her talents, the Queens born ‘Queen of Features’ says that she has yet to unleash her full artistic fury. “You’ve never heard me create music,” she says. “Nothing is out that I’ve done yet.”

Minaj hungers to become even more so successful in the future with aspirations of hitting the big screen to fulfill her dream of becoming a movie star. “My dream is to do a Tim Burton [Alice in Wonderland] movie,” Minaj said. “I am very inspired by visuals… anything that is visually stimulating and his movies are so visually creative.” —Honeymag
