Nicki Minaj cancels V Festival headlining gig | Music News

Nicki Minaj will no longer be performing at the UK’s V Festival this weekend, citing a doctor’s order to rest her strained vocal chords.

“Miss Minaj’s band and crew have all arrived in the UK ahead of the performance at the festival this weekend, however as the artist herself boarded her flight from New York on Friday, August 17, she felt unwell again,” Minaj’s reps explained in a statement. “This is despite having thought she had overcome her vocal chord issues from earlier in the week. Having revisited her doctor she has now been advised to rest for a week, which unfortunately means that she is no longer able to perform at V Festival.”

The rapper apparently put additional strain on her already-damaged vocal chords by initially forgoing doctor’s orders and performing for over two hours at a free set at New York’s Roseland Ballroom a few days ago. That show was to atone for her failure to perform at Hot 97’s Summer Jam back in June due to comments made by a member of the popular radio station’s on-air staff.

Her V Festival cancellation follows that of R&B crooner Frank Ocean, who pulled out of a series of European gigs a week ago for undisclosed reasons.

The Young Money first lady was scheduled to headline the V Festival’s second stage, but will be replaced by rap-rockers LMFAO.

Other artists performing at the two-day festival include Rita Ora, Josh Osho and Stooshe. For full lineups and more information, visit
