We promised you new music from the late, legendary J Dilla, and here it is, courtesy of Frank Nitt and Jay Dee’s younger brother Illa J, the chief curators of his vast back catalogue.
If “The Throwaway“‘s title suggests that it’s second-rate drivel from the vaults, the implication couldn’t be less accurate. Frank seems to think the beat was originally made in the mid-’90s, but this sounds as smooth and as crisp as anything I’ve heard in a while. Whilst both Yancey the Younger and Frank Nitty drop some fluid, fast-paced bars, the funkiness of Dilla’s instrumental ultimately reigns supreme, providing us with an early Christmas present for our listening pleasure.
