Not content with just the one project, Oddisee returns today with two bodies of brand new work for our audio pleasure. Yes that’s 25 tracks and yes, its all pure gold.
Oddisee has become a staple in most avid hip-hop heads diets over the past few years churning out material for a multitude of tastes whether he’s behind the boards or in front of the mic and today is no turn up for the books.
The floating instrumental album The Beauty In All could be said to follow on from his 2011 effort Rock Creek Park while the free bonus mixtape Tangible Dreams exhibits the pastoral raps of 2012’s People Hear What They See, but in truth these two releases demonstrate a much more fluid show than you would think with these simultaneously, detached pieces.
“The Beauty In All is about the flaws and mistakes that give life its character and worth – how even ignorance can give light to knowledge,” Oddisee explains. “For me, not knowing how to do something and still trying is a process that helped my production style evolve.
“If everything we are is out in perfect tutorials, we might never deviate from the teacher. This record is dedicated to imperfection and the sense of pride and accomplishment we get from our struggles. Hopefully, you listen to this record, reflect on the ups & downs of life, and see the beauty in all.”
He continues, “Tangible Dream is a mix-tape dedicated to the deconstruction of our traditional ideas of success and shedding light on the possibility of a sustainable rap life. These rhymes were written in economy class seats, these beats were produced on long bus trips and these songs were recorded in Airbnb apartments.
“All I want to do is make music for a living so that I can live to make music. The only dreams I’m interested in are the ones I can grasp. It just so happens that anything you want bad enough can be obtained. Perhaps the world may never know of my accomplishments but accomplishments they are nonetheless.”
Whether you play them in order or out, shuffled or individually, in the car or in your bed, however you choose to play these projects the conclusion is simple, Oddisee returns once more with unmistakably, remarkable hip-hop.
