Frank Ocean has been teasing his European audiences with the release of new material throughout his concerts across the continent this summer. Following the performance of a number of new tracks last month in Munich, last night at his sold out gig in Brixton he premiered yet another track from the follow up to channelORANGE, tentatively titled “Pray”.
The footage may only be poor quality, shot from a phone in the audience, but disregarding the technical limitations, it still sounds very promising. Standing bathed in a single spotlight and surrounded by an array of symbolic visuals, Ocean delivers his signature soulful falsetto in an acoustic opening accompanied by a solo guitar. As the track continues, the intensity of his vocal builds until finally the whole rhythm section enters to a rousing and infectious chorus that carries the song out before ending on an abrupt stop. “Pray” contains obvious elements of both of Ocean’s previous releases and is an exciting addition to what is shaping up to be a worthy second LP.
