A few hours ago it was announced, on BBC Radio 1‘s UK Album Chart Show that British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran had topped that UK Album Charts with his self-written debut album +, selling more than 100,000 copies during its first week on sale. Prior to his album’s chart success, Sheeran, who grew up in Suffolk, achieved two simultaneous Top 10 UK singles with the release of “The A Team”, which entered the chart at number 3, and “You Need Me, I Don’t Need You”, entering the chart at number 4.

It has been a long arduous process to the top of the charts for the young breakthrough artist; Having previously released four independent EPs, the Halifax, West Yorkshire born singer garnered the attention the mainstream with the release of his fifth EP, No. 5 Collaborations Project. The extended player, which featured collaborations with some of Grime’s premier artists including Devlin, Wiley, P Money, JME, Ghetts, Wretch 32 and Dot Rotten as well a British Hip Hop emcees Sway and Mikill Pane, entered the UK Album Chart at number 46 and at one point sat at the top of iTunes UK album charts with little to no promotion. This incredible achievement lead to an inevitable major label bidding war for his signature which was eventually brought to an end when he decided to sign with Atlantic Records UK.

To show his gratitude to his fans he took to his twitter to release an EP entitled Thank You for free download. download link after the jump.
