Ne-Yo covers Michael Jackson at ‘Bad 25’ event [Video]

In honor of both the 25th anniversary of the release of Michael Jackson‘s seminal third solo album Bad and what would have been the late King of Pop’s 54th birthday, New York City’s Gotham Hall hosted the Pepsi and Billboard-sponsored MJ Summer Beats Birthday Tribute event Wednesday night at which crooner Ne-Yo stole the show with a trio of inspired MJ covers.

The singer treated the crowd to impressive renditions of Jackson classics “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You,” “The Way You Make Me Feel” and “Smooth Criminal,” the latter of which featured Mr. Smith ending up on his face after attempting the famous 45-degree lean MJ appeared to do in the song’s video. He claims to have fallen on purpose, so I guess we’ll have to take his word for it.
