Nas x Damian Marley’s Distant Relatives tour hits London Hammersmith Apollo [Video] | Live Music

A near sold-out crowd were entertained by Damian Marley featuring and NaS at the London leg of Distant Relatives tour last night in Wembley Arena. Many dubbed last year’s show at Hammersmith Apollo “Concert of the Year”, so this one had a lot to live up to. Needless to say (but I’ll say it anyway), it didn’t disappoint – watch footage from the night below.

Big up Sumit over at HHC for the footage of the duo performing songs from their collaborative album, Distant Relatives, plus a spread of Nas classics. However, as it’s primarily a hip hop site, the video doesn’t show the star of the night, Damian Marley, committing numerous counts of arson with a combination of solo classics (especially “Welcome To Jamrock”) and a few of his father’s anthems (“War/No More Trouble” was fitting with the conflict happening in North Africa and the Middle East). I can only imagine how life would be if Bob was still alive, but Jr. Gong does a sterling job bringing the spirit to life on stage.

Dancehall artist Spragga Benz represented well (ended with a plug for his latest album Shotta Culture after his time ended prematurely). Erykah Badu was good if you’re a fan, I guess (tad boring if you aren’t). David Rodigan‘s reggae selection was well-received despite urging the engineer to fix the sound and turn up the volume.

Reggae star Smiley Culture, who recently died in police custody, was represented on the night; Spragga Benz dedicated a song, Damian Marley shouted him out, Rodigan wore a t-shirt and the night ended with Smiley’s hit “Police Officer” booming through the venue.
