From his original demo tape, that featured early breakthrough tracks such as “Back To The Grill” and “Deja Vu” to Illmatic through to his collaborative project Distant Relatives, Nasir Jones, better known to the world as Nas, has enjoyed an illustrious critically acclaimed career that has spanned 20 years. To celebrate two incredible decades in the game, current Hip Hop bible XXL put the Queensbridge emcee on the cover of their latest issue and hosted a special concert in honor of the Hip Hop icon at New York’s famed Webster Hall.

Fellow Hip Hop legends Common, Mos Def (now going by the name Yasiin Bey) and AZ came out to not only perform with Nas but to also but show their appreciation for the emcee as well as to surprise the fans in attendance as they were not listed on the bill to appear at the show. Peep some footage of some of the performances that took place on the night.

Bonus XXL hired celebrated tattooist and graphic artist Mister Cartoon to design the graffiti on the cover story’s backdrop. Below are images of some of the work that went into the cover.
