‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’ = Best Album of 2010, say TIME & Spin

After recieving universal praise, including a once coverted 5 Mic rating from The Source, not to mention hitting number one in the US album chart, Kanye West’s latest LP My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy has topped both TIME and Spin magazine’s Best Albums of 2010 lists.

Spin magazine were the first to crown My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, in their annual The 40 Best Albums of 2010 list, stating…

“Fantasy — a ballsy, self-aware admonition that luxuriates in its grandiose reveal as an Assholes Anonymous orgy that gets nowhere close to serenity — is 2010’s album of the year because Kanye dramatizes all of the above and more with a budget-averse musical imagination that’s ominous, symphonic, heartsick, riff-ravaged, and driven by the most technically legit rapping he’s ever managed. Challenging the “I’m just doing me” cop-out parroted by so many artists, the producer/MC deals in multitudes, feeding off countless collaborators, and making a case for the album-as-art form with a vivid theme and narrative arc (not to mention faux-classical interludes, codas, etc.).”

TIME magazine followed soon after, placing Kanye’s fifth solo album at the very top of their annual The Top 10 Everything of 2010: Top 10 Albums list stating the following…

Kanye West can seem like an attention-hungry young child who constantly tugs on his mother’s pant leg, saying, “Watch this! Watch this!” But once Kanye got our attention, instead of a simple somersault, he delivered the musical equivalent of a one-handed back handspring. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy layers complex computerized instrumentation over Yeezy’s effortless flow, moving from the heavy hip-hop of “Power” and “Monster” all the way to the poppy Michael Jackson tribute “All of the Lights.” Beyoncé, Jay-Z and others guest on several tracks.

Mr. West… Your mother would be proud of you. Congrats!
