VIDEO: Musiq Soulchild – “Silky Soul” (A Tribute To Frankie Beverly & Maze)

Just stumbled across this video for Musiq Soulchild‘s cover version of “Silky Soul” from the tribute album put together at the tail end of last year in honour of Frankie Beverly and Maze.

Musiq’s smooth rendition of the song, originally written in tribute to Marvin Gaye and released in 1989, features on Silky Soul Music: A Tribute to Frankie Beverly & Maze alongside a host of modern R&B heavy hitters including Mary J. Blige, Ledisi, Kem, Mint Condition, Joe, Raheem DeVaughn, Kevon Edmonds, Avant and the Clark Sisters with J. Moss and Kierra Sheard.

And let’s give it up for the original:

“The tribute album for me is a special blessing from my God. Most people who have had a tribute album given to them were not here to see it, feel it or hear it. Well, no matter what happens in the days, months or years to come, I have Indeed been blessed to see, feel and hear this gift of gifts from a loving son and his lovely wife. There are no words to express my true gratitude for all the artist involved, all of who gave one hundred percent of themselves to this project. I have no idea what qualifies me for such a honor but I do know one thing, I will treasure this moment for the rest of my life”. –Frankie Beverly
