Skyzoo – “FGR (First Generation Rich)” (Prod. Jahlil Beats) | Music Video

It’s a good time to be a Skyzoo fan right about now. Not only gearing up to release his long-awaited sophomore LP, A Dream Deferred, which features Talib Kweli, Freeway and Raheem DeVaughn, on October 2nd, the Brooklyn-bred lyricist will also release a pre-album mixtape entitled Theo VS JJ (Dreams vs. Reality) on Wednesday, August 29th.

The free project will contain this little gem, “FGR (First Generation Rich),” produced by Roc Nation-signed hitmaker Jahlil Beats (who also contributes to A Dream Deferred). As a listener acquainted with Jahlil primarly through his bangers for Meek Mill (“I’m a Boss,” “Flexing On ‘Em”), this rich and groovy rhythm he cooks for Skyzoo is a very welcome surprise.

What isn’t a shock, though, is how well the Duck Down Records rapper handles the beat. Although the accompanying clip, which you can watch below, focuses on S-K-Y planted in his car, mentally preparing himself for a bank heist to get “first generation rich” for the majority of its running length, you realise fancy visuals aren’t a necessity when you’re witnessing an expert MC live in action.

Stream and watch “FGR” below, and stay tuned for the release of Theo VS JJ (Dreams vs. Reality) this week. The mixtape will also be made available on the iTunes store for a small price of $4.99, for those who wish to fully support the artist.
