For fans of Luther and Stringer Bell (I’m the former but not the latter, still grieving poor Wallace), here’s Idris Elba’s latest creative venture, a directing and starring role in the video for folk-rock outfit Mumford & Sons‘ “Lover of the Light.”
What a brilliant and deeply moving visual it is. Elba plays a lonely man driven wild by grief: serving two places at the table instead of one, talking to himself, and finally, dressing up for what appears to be his final act, running out into nature and an (almost literal) cliff-hanger. Set in beautiful scenery, amongst wild animals (the lone stag is surely symbolic), it’s a must watch, and a great listen, even if you’re not a Mumford & Sons fan.
