Maryland rapper Wax signs to Def Jam & releases Scrublife mixtape | New Music

According to reports from HipHopDX, emerging LA-based rapper and YouTube sensation Wax (originally from Maryland) has been signed to Def Jam in what has been described as a joint venture between Wax’s label imprint, Scrublife and the legendary Hip Hop label, Def Jam which will allow him release his debut album via “Scrublife/Def Jam”.

To coincide with the announcement, Wax also released his long-awaited DJ Skee-presented Scrublife mixtape to serve as a precursor to his major label debut album and an accompanying video for one of the stand-out tracks on the mixtape – the self-produced “Dispensary Girl,” which premiered on Entertainment Weekly this week – and which you can check out below.

Wax first came on my radar in 2008 via his collaborative album with Virginia-based producer EOM titled Liquid and Courage which was one of the first records I reviewed for We Plug Good Music. After the success of that release, Wax has continued to steadily build up his buzz online via his hugely popular YouTube channel along with his brother and fellow rapper Herbal T, which has now culminated in his record deal with mammoth record label Def Jam.
