Gensu Dean f/ Large Professor – “Forever” | Music Video

I believe the children are our future, and so does Gensu Dean. Because of this belief, the Texas-born producer has recruited the legendary Large Professor to play Hip-Hop instructor in the video for “Forever” from Dean’s Lo-Fi Finghaz project.

The video starts with Xtra P making a house call to assist a mother desperate to finally find out what’s been bothering her daughter Imani. When P talks to Imani, who can’t be much older than 7 or 8, he finds out that her troubles are based on her mounting frustration with the rap music she’s been fed as she proclaims, “I see the same wack rappers on TV over and over again … and it’s driving me insane!” Of course, P has the perfect lesson to lift babygirl out of her funk and begins schooling her on a litany of Hip-Hop classics — all of which he had on hand, on vinyl — and then lyrically assails the wack rappers at the root of Imani’s issue, effectively making it “lights out for that bullshit these dudes be tryin’ to write about.” Dope song and video, no doubt about it.

Though he’s from Texas, Dean’s gritty, less-is-more production style is decidedly East Coast. Armed with his weapon of choice, the vintage E-mu SP-1200 sampler, Dean has produced for the likes of Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Lord Jamar, David Banner and many others, and is dedicated to preserving what he calls “a special and classic era in Hip-Hop.”

Large Professor also represents that era. The veteran New York MC and producer has worked with Hip-Hop heavyweights including Eric B & Rakim, Kool G Rap & DJ Polo and Big Daddy Kane. He also co-founded classic rap crew Main Source, whose single “Live At the BBQ” introduced the world to a then-unknown MC from Queens named Nas.

Lo-Fi Finghaz is available now.
