French Montana f/ Rick Ross, Drake x Lil Wayne – ‘Pop That’ | Music Video

*Sighs* Taking about twenty pages out of the books written by commercial Hip-Hop music videos of the mid/late ’90s to the early ’00s is New York’s very own Southern Hip-Hop co-signed artist French Montana, with the music video for “Pop That”.

Featuring his MMG and YMCMB close affiliates Rozay, Drizzy and Lil Tunechi, the video is nothing short of many of the sterotypes discussed at the recent Hip-Hop On Trial debate event, and many of the art-imitating clichéd scenes seen in The Roots‘ timeless 1996 video, “Things They Do“.

To sit here and criticise this video would be slightly hypocritical of me as one: I was – and still am – a fan of Big Sean‘s “Dance (A$$)” video. And two: The song title already suggests what type of video it would be. However, that (in my opinion) doesn’t take away from the fact that this video is nothing short of a lazy interpretation of those commercial videos that have plagued this great genre during past the late ’90s. At least Big Sean’s video was entertaining.

If this is your thing, check out the video below. Enjoy!?
