Some believe Consequence, a former of G.O.O.D. Music recording artist, has a lot to prove since he stepped away from Yeezy’s Rosewood crew. However, if the Boom Bap-esque sounding music from his recently released visuals for “Public Eye” is anything to go by then he’s sure to make skeptics [such as myself] somewhat (semi) believers.

In my [humble] opinion the question isn’t whether the Tribe Called Quest affiliate can spit – because obviously he can – the problem is many don’t really know Cons that well nor do a lot of people care to know. After six years on Mr. West’s label, which saw the release of one critically panned and commercial flop LP, Don’t Quit Your Day Job and two impressive mixtapes from his Movies On Demand series as well as the arrivals of Kid Cudi, Big Sean (who both went on to create a buzz for themselves and subsequently release bodies of work to retail), his own buzz (the little that he did have) has seemed to have dwindled somewhat.

A few years ago (circa 2005-2009), Cons was slowly but surely creating a real name for himself, amongst the younger generation of Hip Hop heads, independent of Kanye’s affiliation by being one of the first Hip Hop artists release vlogs to the Internet. Documenting events in his day-to-day life, the burgeoning success of the series of vlogs (which hit over one million total views in 2008 and captured Jay-Z and Cons playing Connect Four) entitled Cons TV, was the main reason he renamed his sophomore album after the series.

Now releasing music through his own Band Camp Records, the Queens bred emcee can’t blame anyone but himself, God forbid, things don’t work out too well. However, with the release of “Public Eye” it looks like Consequence might be onto something special. We’ll see… Movies On Demand 3 coming soon – check out the “Public Eye” video below.
