Big K.R.I.T. – “Dreamin” | Music Video

“It’s safe to say that dreams come true I guess / Don’t let nobody tell ya, try for yourself / Just know that I was once considered just a dreamer / But I paid my dues and turned so many doubters to believers…”
– Big K.R.I.T. (“Dreamin'”)

Since the launch of their inaugural freshmen list, entitled Leaders Of The New School, XXL Magazine’s aim has been to select emcees they and many around them, i.e fans, tastemakers (bloggers etc.), DJs and music industry folk, believe (with their future body of music) will be the new shining beacons for Hip Hop and will take the genre into a new era and to new heights.
However, many of those in the Hip Hop buying public (including a few Hip Hop artists) have felt that their lists have been slight mix bag.

However, each year there has been that one artist that has risen to the heights many thought they would; In 2008 a Chicago bred artist by the name of Lupe Fiasco was chosen for the magazines first list and has since gone on to achieve two internationally critically acclaimed albums (one of which as has achieved US Gold status), two US Platinum singles, a Grammy Award and a number one US album for Lasers. B.o.B, chosen for the list in 2009 (that also included Ace Hood, Charles Hamilton and Mickey Factz) released two multi-platinum singles, an US Gold certified album, five Grammy Award nominations and most recently a number one single with British singer Jessie J. Last year Wiz Khalifa was chosen and has since released a critically acclaimed mixtape, an US multi-platinum single, “Black and Yellow” and completed a sold-out 62 date US national headlining tour.

Amongst this year’s list which seemed at lot more balanced than in the previous year, XXL chose an artist I believe will one day reach similar heights of international and critical acclaim/success set by the likes of Lupe Fiasco, B.o.B and Wiz Khalifa. A lyrically articulate Mississippi bred emcee/producer by the name of Big K.R.I.T. was chosen. In 2010 he released his highly respected self-produced debut album, KRIT Wuz Ere, which many publications and blogs ranked amongst their top albums of the year. In five days time (March 28th), the talented Def Jam recording artist will release his sophomore and once again self-produced album ReturnOf4Ever [Return Of Forever], an album upon listening to its first two singles, I feel could be one of the best bodies of works released this year.

K.R.I.T. has now released the visuals for his introspective track “Dreamin”, the first single off ReturnOf4Ever, documenting the difficult journey he had to take as a result of following his heart to become one of the best new artists in Hip Hop. The soulful sample in the hook compliments his personal yet chilling lyrics which help paint a vivid picture of the struggles he had to endure. Get ready to become a Big K.R.I.T. fan!
