The 29th annual MTV Video Music Awards will take place this year at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on September 6th. With performances set to come from singer Alicia Keys and British boyband One Direction, the nominations for the ceremony are now in.

Leading this year’s nominations are YMCMB rapper Drake and international singing star Rihanna. Drizzy ranks a total of five nominations including Best Hip-Hop Video for “HYFR” featuring Lil Wayne.

Rihanna has eight nods in total, sharing a nomination with the Canadian rapper for his single, “Take Care,” which is up for Best Male Video. In RiRi’s total are nominations for Best Female Video and Video of the Year, for the Calvin Harris-produced “We Found Love,” and Best Choreography for the most recently released “Where Have You Been.”

Singer Katy Perry receives four nods – three for her latest single, “Wide Awake,” taken from her feature film Katy Perry: Piece Of Me, for Video of The Year, Best Art Direction and Best Visual Effects, which also lists David Guetta and Nicki Minaj‘s “Turn Me On.”

Minaj grabs her own nominations including Best Hip-Hop Video with “Beez In The Trap” – going head to head with The Throne, who are also nominated for the award with their video for “N*ggas In Paris.”

Young pop star Justin Bieber seals the deal with two nods for his single “Boyfriend,” as singer Frank Ocean receives his first ever nomination as a solo artist, going up against singer Carly Rae Jespen for Best New Artist.
