Mos Def named one of the world’s most influential Muslims | News

The Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Center has compiled their 2012 list of the 500 most influential people and hip hop legend, and the artist formerly known as Mos Def – now going by the name Yasiin Bey – has been named one of the world’s most influential Muslims, after the iconic Muhammed Ali and retired American ball player Kareem Abdul-Jabar – the third American celebrity or sports star to make the list.

“Mos Def (born Dante Terrell Smith) is a hip-hop artist who has recently become more popular for his acting career where he received Emmy and Golden Globe nominations. He is noted for his stance against the misinterpretation of the Qur’an,” states the listing.
