Michael Jackson was and still is one of the greatest Pop Icons and performers of our time. When he passed away on the 24th June 2009, he left a gaping hole in music, which many were and still are determined to fill. Jackson’s passing occurred shortly before he was to make an explosive return to the industry with a vicious onslaught of back to back performances and new music to follow.
To the joy and excitement of many (and the ultimate dismay of a fair few), it was announced a few weeks ago that on May 13th Epic Records, in conjunction with the Estate of Michael Jackson, will release XSCAPE, an album of unheard music by the late King of Pop.
Epic Records Chairman and CEO (as well as executive producer of XSCAPE) L.A. Reid was apparently granted unlimited access to the treasures spanning four decades of material on which Jackson had completed his vocals. Reid then teamed up top producers to “contemporize” the songs while “retaining Jackson’s essence and integrity”.
Today we get to hear the title track produced by Rodney Jerkins (who was the only producer who got to “contemporize” his own production on the project) in full.
