Mannie Fresh talks G.O.O.D. Music album, working with Kanye West | Music News

MTV News caught up with producer Mannie Fresh to get his thoughts on working with Kanye West as well as an update on the highly-anticipated G.O.O.D. Music compilation album.

After linking with West at a Watch the Throne show, Fresh says it didn’t take long for the two to decide to work together.

“Word got back that I was in there [at the concert] and we linked up from there,” Fresh says of his initial meeting with West. “Next thing you know I was at his crib playing beats and he was like, ‘dude, I like almost everything you played – sign right here,’ and I was like, ‘cool.’”

Now officially onboard for the compilation, Fresh is impressed by the way West works and at how freely the creativity flows around the studio.

“He’s tryin’ to find the most talented producers, the most talented artists and put ‘em in a room and say, ‘go for it.’ Whatever is creative to y’all.”

As for the album itself, Fresh says that it’s “pretty close” to being finished and that it has a little something for everyone.

“It’s an album that’s all over the place. … If you from the East Coast you gon’ hear somethin’ that appeals to you, West Coast — wherever you from.”

Overall, Fresh seems most impressed by the positivity of the work environment.

“The cool thing is – in Hip-Hop history, when have we ever got along? It’s a cool thing that we sittin’ at a table, all of us get along on one accord, tryin’ to make something great. Good music.”
