Magnolia Shorty Former Cash Money Records Rapper Murdered | News


Former Cash Money Records artist, Magnolia Shorty, 28 years old, been shot and killed in New Orleans. The rapper was shot at least 26 times. According to Nola.com,

The shooting happened about 12:30 p.m. in the 6300 block of Bridgehampton Drive, police said. Officers found a man and a woman, 28, shot inside a car that had crashed into the gates of an apartment complex.

Additional details on the shooting were not immediately available. Both victims had been shot several times, according to police. They were dead at the scene, police said.

Hailing from the notorious Magnolia housing projects, Magnolia Shorty, born Renetta Lowe, was a nickname given to her by late rapper Magnolia Slim. Discovered by Cash Money Records Co-CEO Bryan “Birdman” Willis, Magnolia Shorty was the second female artist signed to Cash Money Records.

This senseless killing, brings to end a short life which may have seen great things from the the New Orleans rapper. In an interview with British music site SpinnerMusic, back in March, Magnolia spoke of her background and her excitement at being a featured artist at the 2010 SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas:

How did you come on the rap scene?
I’ve been rapping since I was 12 years old. I was working on mix tapes and my verse while rapping at block parties. I eventually got introduced to Cash Money Records and we just went from there.

What are you most excited for at this year’s SXSW?
It’s my first time there and it’s a big opportunity for me to get my verse heard and really let people to know who I am.

Shorty who her first album, Monkey on Tha D$Ck, on the label in 1995 was featured on a collaboration, enititled “Oh Boy” with R&B singer and newly signed Jive Records artist Kourtney Hear (view below).
