Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ ‘The Heist’ album goes platinum

The week keeps getting better for Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, who have officially passed the one million sales mark for their independently-distributed release, The Heist.

According to Nielsen SoundScan, the Hip-Hop duo’s album sold 19,000 copies this week taking the total sales to a little higher than one million, 1,017,000 to be exact. Heightened exposure for Macklemore & Ryan Lewis could well be due to the MTV Video Music Awards this past Sunday, in which the group performed and took home three moonmen.

In our review of the 2012 opus, The Heist was described in a positive understanding light; “Macklemore’s confessional tales are sensitive, chilling and wonderfully crafted as the Seattle rhymer gets to the core of suburban America’s many anxieties, bringing them to the surface and exploring them with great detail.”
