LONDON EVENT: A TRIBUTE TO PRINCE, 7th August @ Cargo
Cargo presents a series of tributes to 4 music heroes. As the public invite says, “Come down to our yard and enjoy some of the best music ever made. BBQ and cocktail specials included.”On August 7th Dj Kyri, founder of the underground soul label R2 records, presents a 2 hour tribute to Prince. This is what he has to say: “I fell in love with Prince’s music when I first heard Purple Rain. I was 18 then, and I basically spent the next 3 years of my life listening exclusively to Prince and other Minneapolis funk artists’ music. Non-stop. It became a bit of an obsession to the point where I’d often have Prince, and his music, appear in my dreams. At that time, being a Prince fan made you a bit of an outcast. Everyone hated Prince in favour of Michael Jackson. This will be my personal tribute to Prince and the rest of the Minneapolis funk artists. I owe a lot to them.”
