Lil’ Wayne explains decision to pull Nicki Minaj from Summer Jam [Video]

While in Atlanta for the city’s annual Birthday Bash concert, Lil’ Wayne spoke to MTV about his decision earlier this month to pull headliner Nicki Minaj and the rest of his Young Money roster from Hot 97’s Summer Jam lineup.

After Hot 97 jock Peter Rosenberg made some disparaging comments about Minaj’s “Starships” single, the YMCMB CEO decided that no one from his crew would be performing at the high-profile concert, chalking his decision up to chivalry and ensuring that his team is not disrespected.

“First and foremost, Nicki Minaj is a female. I don’t know what anyone else believes, but I believe females deserve the ultimate respect at all times,” Wayne explains. “Soon as she called me and told me she felt disrespected, I just declined everything. I pulled her from the show.”

“No person that works with me will be disrespected in my presence,” he added.

Wayne also revealed that although his artist was disrespected, he has “no hard feelings” towards Hot 97 and his decision to pull his team from the concert was nothing more than “an executive move.”

During an interview in the days following the Summer Jam debacle, Minaj toyed with the idea of putting on a free concert for the fans who missed out on her performance, for which she tweeted she had a “hell of a lineup” planned. The free concert has not yet been confirmed.
