In the sneak peek at MTV’s new show Hip-Hop POV, Young Money boss Lil Wayne announced to host Amanda Seales (formerly Amanda Diva) that, while doing his bid on Rikers Island, he was hard at work on an album titled Devol — pronounced like “devil” — that will consist of “my version of love songs,” according to the MC.
“What I mean by ‘my version of love songs’ is that they’re not saying ‘I love you,'” Wayne explains, perhaps hinting that more “How To Love“-style songs are on the way. “It’s all material that I did while I was locked up.”
Wayne explains that he chose “Devol” as the title because it’s “loved” spelled backwards. The clip does not mention whether Wayne ever finished Devol or if he plans to actually release it. Perhaps the full interview will shine more light on the album.
The latest addition to MTV’s lineup, Hip-Hop POV “will feature five of the music industry’s most respected tastemakers and personalities giving viewers raw, unfiltered commentary on the news making headlines in hip-hop culture, provide their opinions on new music, grant insider access to the biggest events and engage in no-holds-barred artist interviews,” according to the show description. It is hosted by Seales, record executive Bu Thiam, radio personalities Charlamagne Tha God from NY’s Power 105 and Devi Dev from Shade 45, and journalist/blogger Sowmya Krishnamurthy. Along with Wayne, the show’s premiere also features Akon and 2 Chainz and airs tonight at 11pm EST on MTV.
