This pairing were responsible for a couple of monster hits last year and have re-united for “Earthquake”, Labrinth‘s long-awaited new single. It’s the follow-up to last year’s instant classic “Let The Sun Shine”, which was Lab’s debut single and hit #3 in the UK Charts, and is taken from his forthcoming debut album.
Much like Labrinth himself, “Earthquake” is a bit quirky, with random sound effects scattered through the beat and passing references to Buckingham Palace and Simon Cowell – this is not your formulaic Urban crossover single.
Nice to see that Tinie Tempah went in on this one – with the exception of his assist on Chase and Status’ “Hitz”, I’ve felt that he’s held back on most of his mainstream material, and thus people have a false impression of his genuine lyrical ability. In terms of wordplay, he’s probably one of the best in the UK, but you’d never know if your only reference point was his single and hit debut album Disc-Overy.
