Kendrick Lamar performs “Backseat Freestyle” at Samsung Galaxy II launch [Video]

Compton’s golden child, Kendrick Lamar performs “Backseat Freestyle,” one of the more upbeat tracks from his debut album, good kid, m.A.A.d. city, in Los Angeles for the Samsung Galaxy II Launch Party.

This track in particular is intriguing for its portrayal of an aggressive, power-hungry urban youth who has little control of his life; hence the protagonist is in the backseat, riding into the unknown. Lamar’s intensity in the studio carries over into his live performances, captivating the audience in the packed venue. Attentive listeners will be intrigued to hear references to the biblical character Judas, as well as Martin Luther King, Jr in a song with such a dark theme. Watch the video below.
