Kendrick explains black hippy

Following his set with Black Hippy at the 2013 Paid Dues Festival, Kendrick Lamar took a minute to speak to Guerilla Union about the origins of the West Coast collective (Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q, Ab-Soul and Jay Rock) and what makes them unique.

“When you say Black Hippy you know it’s not just music, it’s actually a group of individuals saying ‘fuck the regular’ and doing what they want to do in the world and making a wave for themselves without being caught up in the politics,” explained K. Dot.

The L.A. native also shared that what makes them stand out from other groups is that their fans can recognize and relate to each individual instead of needing them as a group. “Everybody can identify with Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul, Jay Rock and Q and then when we come together as Black Hippy, they know it’s bigger than that.” Check out the interview below.
