If getting interview on NBC isn’t an indication that Kendrick Lamar‘s made it, I don’t know what is. Meeting up with fellow Southern California native and American TV host Carson Daly in SXSW, Kendrick sat down to shed light on a plethora of personal topics, making for a remarkably interesting interview on Last Call With Carson Daly.

In the video below, watch as the leading name of the Black Hippy crew speaks on the pressure (or lack of) of progressing from the mixtape format to crafting a studio album, his desire to tell a story outside of the typical gang-related issues in Compton, being inspired by witnessing a Dre and ‘Pac video shoot in his neighborhood and more. Carson regularly makes reference to both Kendrick’s music and personal life, surprising many with his deep knowledge of hip hop.
