Kendrick Lamar discusses J.Cole production on Section.80 x philosophy behind “Hiii PoWer” [Video]


During his recent trip to Toronto, Canada 2011 XXL Freshman Kendrick Lamar, who this week released his highly anticipated project Section.80, sat down with the good folks at The Come Up Show TV to discuss a number of interesting topics with host Chedo. The Top Dawg Ent. recording artist also spoke on studying Hip Hop legends such as Nas, Jay-Z and Eminem, J.Cole‘s stellar production work, his former Hip Hop moniker, perfecting his craft as well as the philosophy behind “Hiii PoWer” and much more.

Speaking on J.Cole’s production, the Compton bred lyricist stated, “His production is crazy me, the first time we locked in [the studio] he played me ten beats, I wanted eleven of them…” On the issue of the delayed duel Kendrick/J.Cole project, he stated “The first track I did was “Hiii PoWer” that’s how we started coming about us actually doing a full concept project together and we’ve been working since and just trying to make is right and perfect for the people… It’s all about timing. The music will always be there but the timing as got to be right, so we’re just trying to make it right.”

Breaking down the philosophy behind “Hiii PoWer”, the first single off Section.80 Kendrick said, “They think it’s just a song, it’s really a big movement we got in L.A, that’s spread like wildfire. “Hiii PoWer”.. the three i’s represent ‘Heart’, ‘Honor’, ‘Respect’. That’s how we carry ourselves in the streets and just in the world period. It basically represents being above all the madness, above all the bullshit, no matter what the world is going through, you’re always going to keep your self dignity and carry yourself with a manner that it don’t faze you.”
