Following the release of his acclaimed fourth studio album earlier this year, modern jazz singer José James has just dropped a brand new EP, Come To My Door, which contains a radio edit of the lead single plus remixes of album cuts “Sword + Gun”, “It’s All Over Your Body” and “Vanguard”.

Having been written by Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Emily King, the title track is a soft acoustic number that showcases James’ beautifully smooth and emotive vocal delivery. The track is symptomatic of James’ signature sound, fusing soul, R&B, electronic and even hip-hop elements into jazz, creating songs that groove steadily with added complexity beneath the surface. The Taylor McFerrin remix of “Come To My Door” is a neo-soul number, hinting at influences from Robert Glasper through it’s use of dragged-back beats and flowing keys, meanwhile the fLako remix of “Vanguard” is a slow-rattling experience that moves away from the heavy grooving of Pino Palladino and Chris Dave on the original. The EP is available for download from iTunes now, take a listen to the title track below:
