Joell Ortiz – “Fuckin’ Problem” (Freestyle) | New Music

If A$AP Rocky‘s latest single “Fuckin Problem” was a sort of less considered, higher tempo “Peso” (albeit still a banger), Slaughterhouse’s Joell Ortiz has dropped a freestyle that rips up the record and turns it into a more lyrically-testing Brooklyn banger.

Filling in for the Harlem rapper and his guests over Noah “40” Shebib‘s hot-and-cold production, Joell keeps his ear to the street and speaks to those living in poverty and hunger all along the East Coast…

“…we served fiends in the blind spot/prices went up so them baggies came down/plus you don’t give a fuck long as that high’s still around/that’s real rap n—a/a lot of y’all just ‘real rap n—-s’/just put words together/ never bought work to shred up in your momma kitchen wishin’ it was the first forever/literally hunger driven for this cheddar…”

Later on he describes the kind of hip hop he makes as “250 Broadway-8AM-standing-in-line music”. As winter approaches for those whose lives have been ruined by Hurricane Sandy, some artists could take a cue from Joell and tell it as it really is out there.
