Jessie J, Jamie Woon, Daley & Wretch 32 Make It On BBC’s Sound Of 2011 List

BBC have released their Sound of 2011 list, a yearly list compiled by a range of top music tastemakers (including SoulCulture’s editor Marsha Gosho Oakes) which predicts the hottest new British artists in the next year.

This year’s list is particularly exciting, with a few of my favourites making the list. Singer/songwriter Jessie J, rapper Wretch 32 and soul crooners Jamie Woon and Daley are all amongst the 15 chosen artists.

Hailed as “the best singer in the world right now” by Justin Timberlake, Jessie J’s songwriting talents have seen her write for Chris Brown, Alicia Keys and Miley Cyrus. Now emerging in the mainstream, Jessie is gearing up to release her much buzzed about single, “Do It Like A Dude“.

Wretch 32 has been on the underground scene for some time, with an independent debut album release already under his belt. But his latest record, the Pulp Fiction-sampling banger “Traktor” has garnered much attention and has much to do with landing the rapper on the list.

27 year old singer/producer Jamie Woon has been bubbling under the surface on the scene for a few years now, performing backing vocals for many established pop acts and partaking in Red Bull Academy before securing his recent record deal with Polydor. Woon’s dark, experimental and soulful sounds have captured mine and other listeners’ attention.

Manchester born Daley first came to public awareness via his song “Rainy Days”, which enjoyed frequent plays on 1Xtra. His soulful mid-high range vocals are most recently featured on Gorillaz‘s “Doncamatic“.

Ellie Goulding took the top spot on 2010’s Sound Of list, which included Rox and Giggs. Check out this year’s full list at BBC.
