Jay-Z “Can’t Knock The Hustle” x Meli’sa Morgan “Fool’s Paradise” | Thursday Throwback

After a couple of weeks’ hiatus, Thursday Throwback is back. I was woken up to the sound of Meli’sa Morgan‘s “Fool’s Paradise” blaring through my house (gotta love living in a musical household). Turn your speakers right up and be prepared to dance like your mother/father around your laptop/puter.

Of course, after two reloads of the 1986 R&B funk hit, I reached for this – Jay-Z featuring Mary J Blige “Can’t Knock The Hustle”:

Mary’s hook samples and refixes Meli’sa’s first verse:

“I’m taking out this time/ To give you a piece of my mind/ Who do you think you are? Maybe one day you’ll be a star”

Lifted from Jay-Z’s 1996 album Reasonable Doubt, “Can’t Knock The Hustle” also samples “Much Too Much” by Marcus Miller and “I Know You Got Soul” by Eric B & Rakim – reminisce with the video:
