Janelle Monae honoured by Essence in pre-Grammy event | Pics x Video

The second annual Essence magazine ‘Black Women in Music’ pre-Grammy event took place recently (February 9th) at the Playhouse Hollywood in Los Angeles and Alternative R&B singer Janelle Monae was honored with the ‘Black Women in Music’ award by the Black Lifestyle magazine.

25-year old Monae, who’s nominated in two categories (Best Contemporary R&B Album and Best Urban/Alternative Performance) at this year’s Grammy Awards taking place this Sunday, was joined at the Essence party by Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, Big Boi, Joy Byrant, Kat Graham, Mary Mary, Anthony Hamilton, her mentor – Prince (who wouldn’t allow any pictures apparently) and a bevy of celebrities to watch her perform and celebrate this accolade.
