Posthumous releases are always a hit-or-miss with fans. While some question whether the quality and authenticity of the work is of a high enough standard as to not water down the musician’s legacy, others might say the artist did not release it during their lifetime so why should the product be released, but diehards more often than not just want to hear more music from their favourite emcee/singer/artist.

Luckily, it seems that in this situation, more quality unreleased material from Detroit hip hop maestro J Dilla is on the way via his own estate through the Pay Jay Label.

The album is titled The Diary and it features Dilla rhyming over production from Madlib, Pete Rock, Nottz, House Shoes, Karriem Riggins and others. This first single “The Anthem” is produced by Dilla and his former partners-in-rhyme Frank-N-Dank rap a “we effed up” version of R. Kelly’s “Fiesta”.

“Anthem” is scheduled to ship 15 April and features instrumental and acapella mixes as well as a “Trucks” b-side . It is available on “12 vinyl via Rappcats here.
