Idris Elba joins The Milk to perform ‘Picking Up The Pieces’ live at Dean Street Studios [Video]

British actor Idris Elba has shown an interest in music throughout his acting career. Creating his own vocals and putting them out in the open, the star of BBC drama Luther and former castmember of HBO’s The Wire lends a verse to Essex-based band The Milk‘s track “Picking Up The Pieces” from their upcoming debut album Tales From The Thames Delta.

The band, which consists of lead vocalist Rich Nunn, drummer Mitch Ayling, guitarist Dan Le Gresley and bass guitarist Luke Ayling, was happy to be joined by the actor on the song.

“We were in the studio and we had this monologue section. We had some ideas but we thought, ‘Who could we get to do it?,’” Le Gresley told The Sun. “Our label boss got in touch with Idris and asked him to see what he could come up with. He was sat in some backstage area while he was filming Prometheus and came back with this rap/monologue thing.”

The recorded version of the track will feature on The Milk’s debut album, set to be released September 3rd, but you can watch the band and Mr. Elba enjoy themselves performing the track live at Dean Street Studios below.
