Heavy D dead at age 44 (May 24, 1967 – November 8, 2011) | News


The rumours have been rife for a few hours now, but news has come in via TMZ that Dwight Arrington Myers better known to most of us as Heavy D died today aged 44.

The rapper was reportedly rushed to an L.A. hospital around noon today and pronounced dead 1 PM due to respiratory issues.

Shooting to fame as the leader of Heavy D & the Boyz who were the first group signed to Uptown Records, they released their debut album Living Large in 1987, which was followed by the platinum selling Big Tyme in ’89 and Peaceful Journey which spawned the modern day classic “Now That We Have Love” in 1991.

Heavy D recently performed at the 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards in October 2011 which marked his first live major TV performance in 15 years and was set to release a new hip hop album following years making reggae music.
