Freeway opens up about Roc-A-Fella split: “Everybody Got Dropped” [Video]

On Wednesday September 22, former Roc-A-Fella Freeway was a guest on the Sway– hosted online Hip Hop talk show RapFix Live. During his sit down with the long time MTV host the Philly bred emcee opened up about the much talked about and documented Roc-A-Fella split, how he was informed about the split, how it affected him and the other artists on label and what he did after the split was announced.

Speaking directly about the split that occurred in 2007 Free stated, “It definitely was a point in time when I was like, ‘Oh sh–, what am I gonna do?’ “. As he continued the emcee, who every year makes a pilgrimage to Mecca, revealed who broke the news to him: “I think it was the time when it was really over and everybody got dropped, after Free at Last [released in 2007], probably like a couple of months after that, that’s when we realised. Lenny S. came to Philly to talk to us… He was like, ‘Look, man, it’s gonna be some changes again; everything ain’t how it was,’ basically, ‘It’s over.’ ”

Free, who first appeared on Jay-Z‘s “1-900-Hustler” in 2000, off Hov’s The Dynasty LP went on to say, “When the whole breakup came, I just went back to what I know,” he said. “It was actually better for me because I already had a name established from the Roc-A-Fella brand.”
