Fashawn – “Back In The Game” | New Music

Fresno, CA rapper Fashawn is one of the most underrated artists in California, if not one of the most underrated rappers of his generation. If you haven’t heard of him, I absolutely recommend that you revisit Boy Meets World, his 2009 album with Exile, and check out last year’s mixtape Higher Learning Vol.2., which both prove he has the lyrical credentials to compete with the best.

If you are familiar with Fashawn, you will know that he’s been very busy this year. Fash has only just completed a superb collaborative album with West Coast underground veteran MursThis Generation; but he’s getting straight back to work.

His next LP, Champagne & Styrofoam Cups, is supposedly inspired by Slick Rick, and is likely to be a project that sees Fashawn move away from the narrow status of “rapper’s rapper” and establish himself as a lyrical talent with mainstream appeal.

This single should help him. The Chevy Woods-featuring “Back In The Game” has a nice bounce and a typical, street-ready Fashawn hook. Whilst the flow is a little different to Fashawn’s usual style, it’s good to see him break it down in the final verse, and altogether, this is a solid demonstration of his skills.

Champagne & Styrofoam Cups drops November 13th. Check out the previous single, “One More Try” here.
