Explore Blue Note Records rich musical history with Spotify App | Tech

EMI Music’s iconic label Blue Note Records have announced the launch of a cool and innovative new Spotify app, which will allow fans to explore music from across the label’s 70+ year history.

Jazz Music fans in particular will be more than familiar with Blue Note’s magnificent roster: from old names like Thelonious Monk, Art Blakey, Ornette Coleman and Donald Byrd, to modern day artists like Robert Glasper and Norah Jones. The app provides entry points to those interested in Jazz and also to it’s aficionados, providing a rich user experience.

As well as the ability to browse the back catalog in a variety of ways, including filters and timelines, a killer feature is the Blue Break Beats, which partners with one of my personal favourite music sites WhoSampled in order to show the reach of Blue Note’s influence on popular music by putting the original tracks from it’s back catalog side by side with newer music that’s sampled it – including artists like Beastie Boys, Chemical Brothers, Common, The Roots, A Tribe Called Quest, Usher, Wu-Tang Clan and many more.

This wonderful app is available here and works in conjunction with the Spotify app.
