After achieving major success in the UK with her debut album Our Version of Events, British songstress Emeli Sandé takes further steps towards raising awareness for her music in the US. After touring major states earlier this year, the “Read All About It” singer dropped by The Breakfast Club for a chat whilst she was in town for a show at New York’s Central Park.

The interview is a fair introduction as Emeli shares her record-breaking achievements such as her debut LP spending 63 weeks in the top 10, and her work with stars such as Alicia KeysRihanna and Katy Perry. What is rather shocking, from the start even, is that it’s pretty clear Charlamagne and DJ Envy seem to have little-to-no idea who she is.

Angela Yee does take the lead with some well-informed questions on her past collaborations, the transition from songwriter to artist, and her marriage. Emeli also gives a little insight into what it was like for her growing up in Scotland, feeling like an “alien,” and finding inspiration to channel this into her song-writing career.

With her appearance at the MTV Video Music Video Awards the other night it was inevitable she would also be asked to for her thoughts on the hot topic of the moment, Miley Cyrus’ controversial performance with Robin Thicke. The interviewee gave a moderate answer in response; cue more attempted British accents and awkward pauses.

It has been reported that the multi-platinum singer is currently hard at work on her sophomore album, with several songs already written and recorded. There is also talk of an upcoming Who Needs The World EP which we should be hearing more about soon.
