Ed Sheeran covers Pink Floyd’s ‘Wish You Were Here’ live at Olympic closing ceremony [Audio]

Despite the initial confusion, one of the UK’s most popular – not to mention talented – singer-songwriters Ed Sheeran did, in fact, grace the stage at the closing ceremony for the London 2012 Olympic Games last night (August 12th). For the biggest performance of his career, the + singer was joined on stage by Pink Floyd‘s Nick Mason, GenesisMike Rutherford and Richard Jones of The Feeling to perform a cover of Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here” classic, taken from the band’s 1975 album of the same name.

For those that missed out on the broadcast, or simply want to relive the performance, you can stream the cover below (audio for now only, m’fraid). While the closing ceremony was both electrifying yet, at times, bizarre, it’s safe to say that Sheeran provided one of the more memorable moments of the nights. I just hope that Boris Johnson wasn’t doing his insta-famous “Dad dance” during this portion.
