Drake joins J. Cole in issuing apology for Autism lyrics on “Jodeci Freestyle” | News

J. Cole x Drake

“Go check the numbers dummy, that’s just me gettin’ started/ I’m artistic, you n*ggas is autistic, retarded.”

That was the lyric found on Drake’s “Jodeci Freestyle” that J. Cole, who guest featured on the track, apologized for earlier today and now, Drake adds to Cole’s apology to the Autistic community.

J.Cole wrote a beautiful and moving apology to individuals and families affected by autism who were understandably hurt by a verse in “Jodeci Freestyle”. I share responsibility and offer my sincerest apologies for the pain this has caused. Individuals with autism have brilliant and creative minds, and their gifts should not be disparaged or discounted. This was a learning lesson for both of us, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to try to right this wrong. J. Cole and I believe that it is the right, responsible, and respectful decision to remove the lyric from the song.

Many people including Autistic campaigner Kevin Healey and actress Holly Robinson Peete have spoken publicly to urge both Cole and Drake to make an apology for their offensive lyrics.

“This was first brought to my attention by my son, who is 15, with autism, loves J.Cole, loves Drake,” shared Peete in an emotional interview with Access Hollywood. “I hope he apologizes and I hope he takes it out [of the song].”
